چکیده

We report a comprehensive x-ray scattering study of charge density wave (stripe) ordering in La2−xBaxCuO4(x ≈ 1/8), for which the superconducting Tc is greatly suppressed. Strong superlattice reflections corresponding to static ordering of charge stripes were observed in this sample. The structural modulation at the lowest temperature was deduced based on the intensity of over 70 unique superlattice positions surveyed. We found that the charge order in this sample is described with one-dimensional charge density waves, which have incommensurate wave-vectors (0.23, 0, 0.5) and (0, 0.23, 0.5) respectively on neighboring CuO2 planes. The structural modulation due to the charge density wave order is simply sinusoidal, and no higher harmonics were observed. Just below the structural transition temperature, short-range charge density wave correlation appears, which develops into a large scale charge ordering around 40 K, close to the spin density wave ordering temperature. However, this charge ordering fails to grow into a true long range order, and its correlation length saturates at ∼ 230Å, and slightly decreases below about 15 K, which may be due to the onset of two-dimensional superconductivity.

Mean-field pairing theory for the charge-stripe phase of high-temperature cuprate superconductors.

Striped high-T(c) superconductors such as La(2-y-x)Nd(y)Sr(x)CuO(4) and La(2-x)Ba(x)CuO(4) near x = 1/8 show a fascinating competition between spin and charge order and superconductivity. A theory for these systems therefore has to capture both the spin correlations of an antiferromagnet and the pair correlations of a superconductor. For this purpose we present here an effective Hartree-Fock th...

Typeset Using Revt E X

We adopt a t 1 − t 2 − t 3 − J − G model for explanation of x = 1/8 anomaly in La 2−x Sr x CuO 4 family compound. The calculated charge susceptibility shows a maximum near (π, π) at intermediate temperatures and near (π, π/2) as temperature approaches zero, in agreement with neutron scattering experiments. Coulomb repulsion G between the first neighbors turns out to be the source of Charge Dens...

Pair-density-wave correlations in the Kondo-Heisenberg model.

We show, using density-matrix renormalization-group calculations complemented by field-theoretic arguments, that the spin-gapped phase of the one dimensional Kondo-Heisenberg model exhibits quasi-long-range superconducting correlations only at a nonzero momentum. The local correlations in this phase resemble those of the pair-density-wave state which was recently proposed to describe the phenom...

Where Do the Doped Holes Go in La 2?x Sr X Cuo 4 ? a Close Look by Xafs

Polarized x-ray absorption ne structure (XAFS) measurements at the La and Sr sites in La 2?x Sr x CuO 4 (0:075 < x < 0:35) indicate that doped holes introduced with Sr are not uniformly distributed in the CuO 2 planes but reside in impurity states with the majority of charge located on CuO 6 octahedra coupled to the Sr dopants by an apical oxygen (denoted as Sr octahedra). A model based on dope...

Correlation of the local and the macroscopic properties of high-temperature superconductors: EXAFS data analysis.

Based on temperature-dependent EXAFS studies of Ba(1-x)K(x)BiO(3) superconducting oxide, a model of the relationship between the local crystal and the local electronic structures has been proposed. Oxygen ions were found to vibrate in a double-well potential and their vibrations are correlated with the local electron pair transfer due to the dynamical exchange BiO(6) <--> BiL(2)O(6), where L(2)...
